Grounds staff described differences in deck gauge, seat suspension and whether transmissions are serviceable — factors staff said would affect lifespan and maintenance costs.
Participants discussed operator comfort, how often grounds are mowed (staff said the courthouse, jail and annex are mowed and that some weeks require twice‑weekly mowing in spring), and the absence of a secure building to store a larger machine. Board members recommended getting additional commercial mower quotes (including from local Green Giant Lawn Care) so the county can compare warranties and service agreements. Staff said a more expensive commercial unit could offer longer life and a nicer ride but noted storage and insurance considerations.
Supervisors asked staff to procure comparable commercial quotes and return with a recommendation; the item was tabled for the next week’s agenda.
