Big Bend Technical College students honored for SkillsUSA state championships

At its April meeting the Taylor County School Board recognized Big Bend Technical College students who placed at the SkillsUSA State Championship and will represent Florida at the national contest in Atlanta June 1–6.
The Taylor County School Board on April 21 recognized students from Big Bend Technical College for top finishes at the SkillsUSA State Championship.
Ms. McCall, speaking on behalf of Big Bend Technical College, introduced state winners across multiple competitions and said the students will represent Florida at the national SkillsUSA contest in Atlanta June 1–6. She named winners including Vanessa Dass (high school medical assisting, gold), Abigail Hamrick (college medical math, silver), Logan Willenstead (college medical terminology, bronze) and members of the college welding fabrication team who took gold.
The board applauded as Ms. McCall acknowledged instructors and advisors who helped prepare the students. The college’s advisors — listed by Ms. McCall as Luke Moses, Terry Clover and Bobby Walsh — joined winners for a photograph at the front of the meeting.
The recognition came during the board’s consent and recognition portion of the agenda; no action was required beyond the presentation. The students’ performance was framed by the district and presenter as an example of career and technical education preparing students for the workforce.
