Hunt County proclaims Volunteer Week, motorcycle-safety month and approves routine contracts and budget items

HUNT COUNTY, Texas — The Hunt County Commissioner’s Court on April 28 approved a set of routine administrative items and proclamations.
The court proclaimed April 20–26, 2026 as National Volunteer Week in Hunt County to honor volunteers who support Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service programs. Mary, a representative of the Hunt County AgriLife Extension Office, presented the office’s volunteer impact report, citing 4‑H clubs, master gardener activities and community‑education hours. “We rely on our volunteers for community impact,” she said, and the court approved the proclamation by unanimous voice vote.
The court also proclaimed May 2026 as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month after Kimberly, a member of a motorcycle organization, urged motorists to watch for riders amid heavy construction traffic. The proclamation passed by voice vote.
On finance and operations, the treasurer presented the monthly report for the period ending Feb. 28, 2026, showing approximately $80.43 million in county balances and about $72 million invested with yields near 3.6–3.8 percent; the court approved the report. The commission approved multiple consent items including accounts payable, line‑item transfers, budget amendments, payroll and personnel. Procurement actions approved included awarding a roadcoat contract to Texan Land and Asphalt Inc. and rejecting submissions for a project‑management RFQ to perform that work in‑house.
The court approved routine permitting requests for electrical distribution crossings on county roads, conditional approval for fiber installation on PR 3826 pending verification of the roadway’s maintenance status, and several plats and variances. An upgrade of County Road 3510 (335 ft from dirt to rock) paid by homeowners was also approved.
All procedural votes recorded in the meeting were taken by verbal roll call and passed by the court; no contested vote tallies were recorded in the transcript.
