The Ellington School District board at a special meeting voted to appoint Dr. Susan Nash Ditzel as the district’s superintendent, effective July 1, 2026, and authorized the board chair, Carrie Scioscia, to sign the related employment contracts.
Board member Jen Mullen moved the appointment, which was seconded by Lenora; the chair called for a voice vote and announced the motion carried. The motion’s text named Dr. Susan Nash Ditzel and set the effective date and contract-signing authority.
Board members offered unanimous and emphatic welcomes during the short meeting. Dr. Young said the district had run “a nice transparent process” with “some amazing candidates,” and other members praised Ditzel’s experience and fit for the community, citing her prior leadership at Crystal Lake and Vernon Center Middle School.
Dr. Susan Nash Ditzel addressed the board and community, saying she felt “welcomed and blessed to be able to come back to this district and serve,” introduced her mother in the audience, and said she “cannot wait to dive into the work and work alongside of all of you.”
The appointment motion authorized the board chair, Carrie Scioscia, to sign employment contracts on the board’s behalf; the transcript records the chair announcing the motion carries but does not record individual roll-call votes or a tally by name.
Following the vote the board immediately moved to adjourn. No additional business was discussed at the special meeting.
