Lavaca County approves proclamations, equipment purchase and other consent items; budget process delayed

At its May 11 meeting the Lavaca County Commissioners approved routine proclamations and administrative items, purchased equipment for a precinct, and approved the consent agenda while the county judge announced a delay in the budget process.
The court read and approved a proclamation declaring May 15, 2026, as Peace Officers Memorial Day and another declaring May 3–9, 2026, as National Correctional Officers Week. Commissioners unanimously approved a road closure request for the Sweet Home Fire Fest (CR391, 391D, 391E, 391F, 398A, 389) for May 15–16.
On land‑use items the court approved Certificates of Exemption from Subdivision Requirements for two separate sets of applicants (Arlene Smith, Janice Kerzner and Sharon Bujnoch; and Robert Mosher) by unanimous vote. The court approved the purchase of a Silverline 40 dual tandem trailer for Lavaca County Precinct 2 at a cost of $25,164.00; Commissioner Wayne Faircloth moved the purchase and Commissioner Kenny W. Siegel seconded the motion.
The court approved the consent agenda, which included meeting minutes, tax assessor-collector reports, claims and payroll, budget amendments (if any), and various county officials' monthly reports. County Judge Keith Mudd announced that "the Budget will be delayed this year until mid-September" and said workshop dates will be provided at the next meeting.
The court voted to enter executive session with the county attorney at 9:37 a.m. and returned to open session at 10:42 a.m.; the court adjourned at 10:43 a.m. The public minutes show no on-record action taken as a result of the closed session.
