Laredo ISD trustees recognize donors, award scholarships at Martin High School ceremony

Alonzo Rudy Morales, speaking for the Laredo ISD Board of Trustees, thanked donors and announced multiple student scholarships at a ceremony at Martin High School. "My name is Alonzo Rudy Morales and it gives me great pleasure to represent the Laredo ISD Board of Trustees," he said as he opened remarks.
Morales thanked Mariachi students, cheerleaders and volunteers, and praised district staff and parents for supporting students. He highlighted donors who return year after year and singled out Carlos Solis, who submitted a scholarship in his parents' name and traveled from San Antonio to attend the event.
The remarks also recognized longtime alumna Estela Gallegos Perez, class of 1946. Morales said of her, "She's a 100 years young," and extended congratulations to the Class of 2026 on behalf of the board.
Event staff announced scholarship winners and award amounts. Among those named were Eileen Alapon, who received the Quito Garcia Scholarship ($500) and a Laredo College Academic Excellence Award ($1,000); Victor Sanchez, named for a Rio College Academic Excellence Award (announced at $1,000); and Brianna Safejo, who was announced as receiving a trades/technical scholarship ($2,500) and a $250 Mike's Credit Scholarship. Photos were scheduled to be taken by MHA staff after donors were announced and scholarship recipients were acknowledged.
The ceremony combined donor recognition, alumni acknowledgment and public celebration of graduating students; no formal board actions or votes were recorded during the remarks.
