East Hampton village mayor says camera grant and events aim to boost safety and community ties

In a one‑on‑one interview on LTV, East Hampton Village Mayor Jerry Larson described how his law enforcement background shaped his approach to public safety and community engagement.

Larson, a lifelong resident and former police chief, said the East Hampton Village Foundation secured funding to install $30,000 worth of cameras and to cover a $30,000 annual subscription that allows the village and county law enforcement to use camera footage to track vehicles and times for investigations. "When you have a crime that occurs ... you now have a way that you can find that vehicle and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department also has these cameras," Larson said, describing the system's investigative uses.

Larson also discussed community events he helped start, including "Tuesdays at Main," which he said brought locals and visitors together and supported downtown businesses. He described the pride parade as having been organized after the suicide of an 18‑year‑old to provide visible community support for young people facing identity struggles.

The mayor framed the initiatives as both safety measures and community‑building efforts. He credited volunteers and small grants raised in the village for helping launch events and said officials continue to pursue activities that bind residents and local businesses.
