Council approves DTE addendum; greenway path portion will be delayed, city administrator says

City Administrator Dean told the Trenton City Council on May 4 that DTE has expanded regulatory requirements related to a cleanup at the site that will increase the scope, cost and timetable of work and will delay the greenway path portion of the project.
“The regulatory side of things have changed,” Dean said. “Therefore, that it's going to require them to take more time and really more money on the project.” He asked council to authorize the city administrator to sign an addendum to the original DTE agreement; the council approved the authorization unanimously.
Why it matters: The addendum alters the implementation schedule for a publicly visible element — the greenway path — and signals added regulatory oversight and cost for the cleanup project. Council did not change other provisions of the agreement at the meeting.
Council directed staff to proceed with the signed addendum and did not record a dissenting vote. The authorization allows the city administrator to execute the addendum on behalf of the city, after which staff will track schedule and cost implications with DTE and report back to council.
