Jason Fisher, the district’s director of learning, told the board that state testing is underway and that early returns show promising results for English-learner students.
"We just received our WIDA scores back today. Very pleased to report that of the 241 students that we have in Warrick County who are required to take the WIDA assessment 80% of them met their projected growth target for English language proficiency," Fisher said, crediting ENL teachers, general education staff and administrators for supporting that growth.
Fisher reminded the board that the ILEARN testing window opened April 13 for elementary and middle grades and that some subject scores (English language arts, social studies in grade five, and mathematics) will not be final until September. He explained that this year’s administration aligns with the 2023 future-focused standards and that the state will conduct standard-setting in late July.
He also noted that many grade-12 students took the government assessment this year because it is now a student-success indicator in the accountability model, and that biology and the grade-12 government assessments will conclude on May 15. Fisher outlined the IREAD summer window and said summer IREAD will be held at Chandler Elementary from May 11 through June 5 to streamline operations.
The board asked no substantive follow-up questions during Fisher’s update. The district will publish complete results and follow-up analyses when state reporting is finalized.
