The Warrick County School Corporation board approved a slate of routine and contract items at its meeting, including a new early childhood education capstone course, food and nutrition contracts, a refuse services contract and renovation contracts for several schools.
Jason Fisher, director of learning, presented the early childhood education capstone course that will be offered at WPCC in the 2027–2028 academic year as the second year of an existing sequence. "I recommend the board approve the course addition as presented," Fisher said. The board approved the addition on a motion by Mr. France, seconded by Mr. Baker.
The board also approved the food and nutrition department’s recommended bids for the 2026–2027 school year after Mrs. Shanay Rowe reviewed the packet of recommendations. Mr. France moved approval; Mrs. Wilhelmus seconded, and the motion carried.
Dr. Doug Gresham recommended Waste Management as the lowest responsible bidder for refuse services covering July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029. The motion to approve the refuse contract, moved by Mr. Mosby and seconded by Mr. Baker, carried with one abstention. "I recommend the board approve the recommendation as presented," Dr. Gresham said.
Todd Armstrong recommended awarding renovation work at Castle High School, Tecumseh High School and Tecumseh Middle School to Danko Construction for projects including restroom renovations, flooring and HVAC work. The board approved the contract on a motion by Mr. Eigner, seconded by Mrs. Wilhelmus.
The board accepted several donations presented by administration: $5,000 from Kaiser Aluminum and $8,094 from Ascension to support certification costs at WPCC; $700 from the NRA Foundation for the Tecumseh Clay Target Team; $500 from Full Throttle Automotive for Tecumseh baseball; and $2,500 from Antonio Harris for Chandler sports equipment, shoes and uniforms. "We always thank all of our partners and community members who are always so generous," Dr. Redmond said. A motion to approve the donations carried.
Dr. Doug Gresham presented certified, administrative and non-certified personnel recommendations for the 2026–2027 school year, including new teachers, principals and support staff. The board approved the employment recommendations on a motion by Mr. France, seconded by Mr. Baker. The meeting record also reflects approved leaves, transfers and multiple resignations with specified effective dates.
Several policy items were on first reading only: policy 5600 (meal charges) and policy 6500 (investment policy); no action was taken on those items tonight and second readings are scheduled for the May 11 meeting.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for May 11; the packet and proposed policy language are available on the district website.
