Seward County approves 2025 Road & Bridge annual report; commissioners note equipment delays and staffing

Mark Johnson, representing Road & Bridge, presented the report and said the department's 2025 annual budget was $3,062,386. He reported 22 positions in the unit for 2025 (noting current staffing at 20), 137 miles of asphalt road, 446 miles of gravel/rock, and 100 miles of earth roads. Major maintenance work in 2025 included 28 miles of HMA overlay and other resurfacing. Johnson reported overlay expenditures of about $5,743,701.38 and a total program figure of $7,951,883.41.
Johnson also described two vacancies on the crew and a delay in delivery of two Rhino mowers tied to manufacturing delays; he told commissioners he had set a firm deadline with the vendor and would seek alternatives if the equipment did not arrive by mid-month.
Commissioner motion and second to approve the annual report passed by voice vote, recorded as 5-0. Staff indicated they would file the annual report with the state as required.
The county did not provide full line-item detail in the meeting remarks; Johnson offered to answer follow-up questions and commissioners approved the report for submission to the state.
