Seward County commissioners elect Steve Helm chair and name Todd Stanton vice chair

The Seward County Board of Commissioners reorganized at its Jan. 5 regular meeting after three members were sworn in. Commissioners voted to make the temporary chairman the permanent chair and then selected a vice chair for 2026.
A motion to elect Steve Helm as chair was made and seconded; the roll‑call vote was recorded as affirmative by Commissioners Stanton, Lauterbach, Helm, Metland and Vasquez. The board then moved to name Todd Stanton vice chair; that motion also passed unanimously.
Commissioners exchanged brief remarks welcoming the new leadership and discussed the timing of reorganization under Kansas statutes governing county boards. No contested nominations were recorded and both leadership positions were approved by the board during the meeting.
