A student who identified himself as Matthew summarized the capitol visit: the delegation met several legislators and Gov. Tim Walz to explain how inadequate state aid and unfunded mandates strain district budgets. He said the group emphasized requests for relief, including a proposed change to the local operating revenue formula and protections for compensatory and specialized transportation funding that, according to the students’ briefing, could otherwise cost the district several hundred thousand dollars.
Board members thanked the students for their civic engagement and acknowledged staff who supported the trip. The board offered appreciation for the students’ presentations and for their adviser and principal’s support.
