The Seward County Commission approved several administrative items Jan. 20, including signing a budgeted $25,000 agreement with Russell Child Development Center for fiscal year 2026. County administration said the agreement had been approved in the budget but was not signed at the time due to turnover in the executive assistant role; the commission moved to sign the agreement.
Commissioners also adopted resolution 2026-05, which corrects the county’s list of designated bank depositories and updated an outdated statute citation in the prior resolution. Administration clarified the county maintains relationships with Equity Bank and Bank of Beaver City and listed other institutions as potential depositories; the resolution passed by recorded vote.
On facilities, representatives asked the commission to allow an Activity Center booking fee of $2,500 to roll over across multiple events. Presenters said a successful negotiated rollover could support 10 events annually and estimated an approximate $50,000 annual community economic impact; commissioners asked staff to negotiate a middle-ground approach tied to guaranteed events and requested data on economic impact before the commission adopts a permanent policy. The commission directed staff to meet with the facility manager and return with a recommended approach at the next meeting.
