Council appoints Theodore “Ted” Davis as director of Special Services

The Farmington Hills City Council voted May 11 to appoint Theodore “Ted” Davis as the new director of Special Services after a national recruitment process. Lori Brown of Human Resources described a search that produced 18 applicants and three finalists; Davis was selected following two rounds of competency‑based interviews that included regional partners.
Acting city manager and HR staff highlighted Davis’s more than 20 years of municipal parks and recreation experience, his record managing multimillion‑dollar capital projects and securing grant funding, and his accredited experience leading large recreation systems. Council members welcomed Davis and noted his experience with new community/senior center projects and grant procurement.
The appointment passed on a regular vote. Council requested the department prioritize inclusive playground equipment, grant pursuit for local parks projects and a smooth transition from interim leadership. Davis introduced his wife and thanked the council; onboarding steps and transition tasks will follow HR and department procedures.
