Iredell-Statesville to issue RFP for board attorney; board agrees special meeting for interviews

The Iredell-Statesville Schools superintendent outlined a plan to open a public RFP for a new board attorney and the board agreed to move forward at its May 11 meeting.
Dr. Jeff James said staff would circulate an RFP to the North Carolina School Boards Association and post it on the district procurement site and the district website. He said the RFP window would be roughly two weeks to allow firms time to respond, that staff would pre-screen for minimum requirements, and that the board would interview a short list of candidates in a special called meeting in June. “Once Kelly and I get everything drafted tomorrow, get a link from Jada, we’ll have it all in the packet,” the superintendent said.
Board members asked for the process to be transparent: proposals that meet the RFP criteria will be made available to all board members, and interviews will be conducted in open session. Several members emphasized timely access to application materials in advance of the special meeting and requested consistent interview questions so candidates are evaluated on the same criteria.
The board did not vote to preclude any particular outreach channel; instead, members instructed staff to proceed with the RFP advertising and to schedule candidate interviews after the submission window closes.
