Ellsworth County commissioners sign plans, approve abatements and move forward on landfill hire

The Ellsworth County Board of Commissioners signed the county Management Plan and the Noxious Weed Plan and agreed to move ahead with a landfill hire after a brief executive session on Feb. 23.
Teresa Shute and Daron Stevenson of the Noxious Weed, Landfill & Recycling Department presented the plans; commissioners reviewed and signed them during the meeting. Following a 10-minute executive session regarding landfill non-elected personnel, Shute told the board she will proceed with filling the position.
Commissioner Shawn Thomas moved to approve three tax abatements (2025-78, 2025-79 and 2025-80) totaling $1,683.80; Commissioner Dennis L. Rolfs seconded and the motion carried 3-0. The commissioners also read a proclamation for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month presented by Jaylan Alexander, a DVACK Youth Mentor Advocate.
The board said it will table a decision on the LEPP Grant until Shawn Estrel can attend a meeting. The session concluded at 11:11 a.m. with a 3-0 vote to adjourn.
