Ellsworth County commissioners approve 2027 juvenile services budget; submission to state authorized

Marissa Woodmansee and Mike Daniel of the 20th Judicial District Juvenile Services presented the district’s annual Comprehensive Plan and the proposed 2027 budget to the commissioners. Commissioner Gregory C. Bender moved to approve the 2027 budget “as presented and authorize its submission to the Kansas Department of Corrections Juvenile Services.” Commissioner Shawn Thomas seconded the motion, which carried 3-0.
The action commits the county to the figures and programmatic elements included in the presented budget and begins the administrative process of state review and acceptance under the Department of Corrections Juvenile Services procedures. The commissioners did not record any amendments to the budget at the meeting.
The approval was the principal formal decision of the session; the board took other routine actions and returned from two short executive sessions without recorded votes on personnel matters. Next procedural steps are the county’s submission of the approved budget packet to the state agency for review and any follow-up requests that agency may issue.
