Development at 1285 Evergreen paused after endangered American Burying Beetle flagged by state

The Elk County Board of Commissioners placed proposed driveway work and development at 1285 Evergreen on hold after Community Development Director Diane Cucar said the parcel had been flagged by the state for the presence of an endangered American Burying Beetle.
Cucar presented bids for the driveway at the parcel and said the state flagging requires the county to pause development "until further notice," as recorded in the minutes. The board did not vote on the driveway bids while the hold is in place.
Commissioners also discussed construction of a new fire barn in Grenola, covering the grant process, building size and bids, but the minutes reflect discussion rather than firm decisions or appropriations. Rural Fire Chief Todd Winscher reported that one Longton fire truck has returned to service and another will be sent to the shop for similar issues.
