Commission schedules June 4 public hearings for 2026 general plan and land‑disturbance changes

The Castle Valley Planning and Land Use Commission set public hearings for its next regular meeting to take public comment on the 2026 general plan update and a narrowly defined set of land‑disturbance application changes. Commissioners agreed the general plan revisions — reformatted from Google Docs into the draft and updated with recent survey and policy edits — are ready for a public hearing and should appear on the June 4, 2026 agenda.

Commissioners discussed highlighted edits across sections such as housing, emergency preparedness and fire-protection policy. Staff and commissioners noted survey results showing an increase in Firewise inspections and continuing concern about wildfire risk; language integrating the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) and up-to-date mitigation-plan dates (2015, 2020, 2025) was added to the draft.

Separately, commissioners concluded that proposed land-disturbance (land-use disturbance activity) changes had not been adequately discussed during the earlier public hearing. The commission voted to revisit and then table broader land-disturbance edits, but later agreed to move the specific 95-6 land-disturbance changes to a narrowly scoped public hearing on June 4 so the public has notice and opportunity to comment. Commissioners emphasized the notice will cover the two specified changes only; no additional edits may be added at that hearing.

The commission instructed staff to post hearing notices at least 10 calendar days in advance and to prepare revised land-use application forms reflecting any approved changes. The general plan public hearing will be the first order of business at the June 4 meeting; the land-disturbance hearing will be noticed separately but for the same meeting date.
