Committee recommends McGraw Hill for 6—12 social studies; board to vote next week

"McGraw Hill had strengths in the standards and inquiry alignment," the curriculum lead said, noting the resource's 2024 copyright update and a digital platform that supports translation and scaffolds for multilingual learners. The district noted costs are manageable and allow for roughly $50,000 in additional professional development to support year-one implementation.
Board members asked about pulse checks and how the district will measure teacher comfort after professional development. Curriculum staff said they will survey staff after PD days and use instructional coaches to support implementation. Staff also noted digital translations (including Spanish and about 15 other languages) and MLL-targeted training as supports for multilingual students.
Next steps: Administration expects to bring a contract for approval next week, followed by summer previews for teachers and an August 26 launch.
