The Marysville City Council voted Feb. 3 to amend sections of the citys Administrative Code to update the list of standing committees, clarify the distinction between standing and ad hoc committees, and formalize rules governing council committees.
City staff recommended the amendments as a cleanup and reorganization of existing committee rules. "A lot there, but it really is primarily clean up," said Jim Shadd, describing the proposal to re-establish standing committees and put clear rules in writing.
As part of the action the council adopted a resolution establishing a Measure G Oversight Committee as a mandatory standing committee per voter-approved Measure G. The resolution directs that the two council seats on that oversight committee be filled by the same members serving on the finance and audit committee (the mayor and the vice mayor), and it allows the committee to select two external public members when needed.
Separately, the council approved formation of an Ad Hoc Public Safety Committee "to develop a comprehensive knowledge on all matters related to the primary providers of public safety in the city of Marysville," with a requirement that the committee spend no more than one year on the review and report back with any recommendations. Mayor Chris Branska said he would serve initially and expected to recommend appointing Council member Brad Hudson to the committee after a short initial period.
Both motions were moved and seconded and carried by voice vote with no opposition announced. Council members asked staff to solicit candidate recommendations for the two public members of the Measure G Oversight Committee and return with nominations at the next meeting.
