Commission approves animal-services budget amendment and appoints Rick Parker to Land Bank Authority

During a short special-called session before the agenda-setting meeting on April 21, the commission addressed three items: an ordinance to amend the FY 2026 operating/capital budget to provide contingency funding for the animal services department; a recommended appointment to the Land Bank Authority; and a motion to hold an executive session after the agenda-setting portion of the evening.
Attorney Drake read the ordinance language authorizing additional funds for medical care, professional staffing and supplies in the animal services department. Commissioners moved and seconded to approve the ordinance; all commissioners present responded "aye" and the mayor announced the motion carried. The mayor also introduced Doug Hansford as interim animal services director during the item.
The commission then considered and approved a recommendation to appoint Rick Parker to the Land Bank Authority, thanking him for his willingness to serve. Commissioners subsequently moved to enter executive session after the agenda-setting meeting for discussion of real estate acquisition or disposal.
