Bandon School District superintendent gives 60-day notice; board names member to work with OSBA on interim

The Bandon School District superintendent submitted a 60-day resignation notice that will make their last day July 7, 2026, the board announced at its May meeting. The resignation letter, read aloud by the presiding board member, cited compliance with Oregon educator resignation requirements and said the superintendent remained committed to an orderly transition.

The letter recounted recent district accomplishments including completion of bond projects (a track and bus barn), expansion of early literacy efforts, growth in career and technical education offerings and increased access to dual-credit courses. After the reading, the board moved to accept the resignation; the motion passed unanimously.

Board members also elected Troy to serve as board chair for the June meeting. In separate action, the board designated Troy to work with OSBA to identify and hire an interim superintendent; that motion was seconded and approved unanimously.

Board discussion earlier in the meeting noted the district has engaged a third-party investigator to review several complaints and that a comprehensive report is expected before the end of the school year. The resignation letter says the superintendent will support a professional, orderly transition during the next 60 days.

The board did not provide the superintendents name in the public reading of the letter at the meeting. The district referenced Oregon educator resignation requirements under ORS guidelines as the basis for the notice period. The board accepted the resignation and will proceed with OSBA-assisted recruitment for an interim leader; Troy will be the board's point person on that effort.
