The Mattoon CUSD 2 business manager recommended and the board approved plans to resurface the Macon High School track and to redo the district tennis courts in FY27.
"The cost to resurface the track, which would be a $173,370, and to upgrade and redo the tennis courts would be $98,000," the business manager said, describing the recommended procurement method (TIPs) and the preference to reuse the original contractor for continuity.
Manager noted the resurfacing will add another wearing layer and reline the track to extend useful life: the vendor estimated resurfacing would yield approximately five years of life for the next layer, with incremental additional years after subsequent overlays. The manager indicated CSFT (restricted) funds could be used for the work.
John Hedges moved to approve the resurfacing projects and Ashley Overton seconded; the board voted to approve the measures during the meeting.
The projects are planned for FY27 and will proceed through the facilities procurement process; the board did not discuss additional amendments to the funding source at the meeting.
