The Marysville City Council voted to add and approve two letters to be sent to state budget committees requesting support and funding for implementation responsibilities tied to Proposition 36. Council members discussed the county’s role in implementation and the need for adequate funding for courts and treatment programs.
One council member described the letters as intended to urge the state to provide the necessary resources for county implementation of Prop 36, saying the county had been slow to fund requirements and the letters would press for better support. The motion to send the letters carried unanimously.
Separately, the mayor announced public appointments to the Measure G oversight committee: Rosemary Dow, whom the mayor described as having a long career in finance, and Eric Button, whom the mayor noted as a former editor of the Appeal-Democrat. The mayor and Vice Mayor were named as the council’s two Measure G committee members.
Council discussed next steps for the letters (staff to collect signatures) and confirmed the committee membership for Measure G oversight.
