ELL S WORTH COUNTY — The Ellsworth County Board of Commissioners on March 16 approved renewed personnel contracts and authorized grant applications for the county health department while the county’s WIC program prepares to shift to a regional structure.
Health Department Director Kerianne Ehrlich told the commissioners that WIC services will move to a regional area administered jointly with Republic County. The board approved an executive session from 10:03 a.m. to 10:08 a.m. to discuss non‑elected personnel contracts for the department’s nurse practitioner and pharmacist; after returning to open session the commissioners approved those contract renewals by a 3‑0 vote.
Commissioner Gregory C. Bender then moved to allow Ehrlich to proceed with five grant applications totaling $69,345.28; Commissioner Shawn Thomas seconded the motion and it passed 3‑0. Ehrlich said she will also post a part‑time nurse position and will keep the board updated on hiring and grant outcomes.
The actions are intended to maintain clinical staffing and pursue additional funding for county health services as the WIC administration changes. The board did not specify the individual grant sources during the meeting.
Next steps: Director Ehrlich will submit the grant applications and follow up with the commissioners on hiring and funding developments.
