Ellsworth County approves $85,200 SNBI addition and to pursue KDOT grant for two bridges

Bret Dunlap, the county Road & Bridge supervisor, and Jon Halbgewachs of Kirkham Michael discussed the scope of inspections. Commissioner Gregory C. Bender moved to proceed with Kirkham Michael’s inspection agreement including the SNBI addition priced at $85,200; Commissioner Shawn Thomas seconded and the motion passed 3-0.
The board also voted to allow Kirkham Michael to apply for a Kansas Department of Transportation grant to cover 95% of the costs for Bridge OS677 and Bridge FAS70. The minutes record the board’s approval but do not include projected total repair costs for the bridges.
Commissioners did not record a grant application timeline or an expected construction schedule in the minutes. Kirkham Michael was authorized to pursue the grant and proceed with inspection planning, subject to standard grant approvals.
