Forsyth County Schools delays code-of-conduct vote after staff seek more legal review

The draft also includes updates on alcohol and drug consumption, language addressing academic dishonesty and the "use of AI tools" (board members suggested wording focused on misuse rather than use) and a revamped dress-and-grooming section developed with principals and student voice.
Staff noted that state legislative changes to the distraction-free policy were passed but do not take effect until the 2027–28 school year, so the district is retaining local language until implementation timing is certain. Following discussion and clarifying questions from board members, the chair sought a motion to lay the code on the table; the motion passed unanimously.
Board members emphasized clarity and communication to principals and families, and staff said they would prepare any visuals and handouts and continue stakeholder outreach during the tabling period.
