Staff (S9) said details are still being worked out but described a likely sequence: the drone show and music on July 3, and a July 4 program that will include a disabled-veterans morning event at Lakefront Park, the Pewaukee Lake Waterski Club show at about 17:00, a duck race and parade on West Wisconsin Avenue, and an evening fireworks finale. Staff reported that shells fired from barges will reach up to about 600 feet and that shells fired from the softball diamond could reach about 800 feet.
Commissioners discussed logistics including potential impacts to park surfaces, turnaround time for leased fields (cleanup and usage by softball leagues), shuttle routing, possible flyovers and accessibility for wounded veterans. Director (S5) said staff would coordinate with the village board and the police departments and that a rain date of July 5 is being held for the drone show and fireworks if weather requires it.
The commission gave general support for staff to proceed with planning and recommended forwarding any special-event applications to the village board for final approval, with staff to provide updated details on road closures, parking options and cleanup plans as they are finalized.
Next steps: staff will refine locations and times, finalize pier/launch logistics for waterfront events and work with event organizers and police on staffing and traffic-control needs before the council and village board consider formal permits.
