The Pewaukee Common Council on Nov. 3 approved the city’s 2026 budget and set the tax levy at $12,995,882.
City staff told the council the state’s final assessed-value number—"a little over 5,000,000," as presented—reduced the proposed tax rate from the workshop figure of $3.32 per $1,000 of assessed value to $2.59. Staff recommended using the maximum allowable levy (just under $13 million) and reducing proposed borrowing so the city would not have to finance as much over time. The proposed fund balance remains about 27.2% of revenues, roughly the same as at the workshop.
During the public hearing portion no residents spoke on the budget. Council members asked staff technical questions about the average assessment increase and how individual tax bills could change; Brett (staff) explained that the average residential assessment increase had been about 32%, so a homeowner whose assessment rose above that average would be more likely to see a higher tax bill if other taxing entities kept budgets unchanged.
A council member moved to approve the budget as presented and to set the levy at $12,995,882. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The council did not record a roll-call tally in the public portion of the record.
