The Pewaukee Plan Commission voted to approve a site and building plan for Samuel and Megan Steiner to build a detached garage and a 5,400‑square‑foot accessory structure at N43W23700 Fieldstone Road.
Nick, a city staff member, told commissioners the property will host a new single‑family home and an accessory agricultural building and that staff recommended approval because the parcel’s agricultural zoning and prior approvals made the larger accessory structure consistent with past decisions.
Attorney James Hammis, representing the applicants, and Rob Miller, the contractor, described design details, saying the accessory building will use metal cladding with cedar post wraps, a metal roof and architectural features such as a cupola and overhangs so the structure “complements the home” rather than appearing as a plain metal shed.
A resident who identified themself as a Pewaukee homeowner said they had paid about $1.5 million for their house and worried the accessory building would look “rusty” in five years and hurt nearby property values. The applicant replied that the building is being “dressed up” and is intended as a long‑term investment.
Commissioners asked about parcel size, access points and tax assessment; Nick said parts of the lot will be taxed for single‑family use while other portions will be taxed as agricultural. After discussion, a commissioner moved to concur with staff recommendations and the commission approved the plan.
The plan commission’s approval clears the site and building plan at the commission level; any further permits or building‑code approvals will proceed through the city’s standard permitting process.
