The Dodge County Human Resource Committee voted to send a county board resolution recommending adoption of the state-run Wisconsin Deferred Compensation 457 plan as an additional retirement-savings option for county employees.
Tanya Mindeman, Dodge County HR director, told the committee that "Wisconsin Deferred Comp is a 457 plan" and that it operates like a private-sector 401(k). Mindeman said the program would be run by the state and that "there is no cost to Dodge County, to offer this program," noting staff time for education and enrollment processing as the only expected administrative expense.
Committee members said the option could help recruit employees who already participate in Wisconsin Deferred Compensation with other municipalities and allow them to continue the same plan if they move to county employment. Christine Churchill moved to forward the resolution to the county board; the motion was seconded and carried by unanimous voice vote.
The committee recorded no formal dollar cost to the county and HR said corporation counsel added a signature page required by the state. The resolution will be placed on the next available county board agenda for final action.
Next steps: the committee forwarded the draft resolution to the Dodge County Board for consideration and formal adoption by the board.
