Veterans service officer reports increased caseload, $217,000 in one-time payments to local veterans

Caitlin Rayer, Dodge County’s veteran service officer, briefed the committee on office caseloads and recent outcomes. Rayer said the office currently has approximately 259 open claims and has served about 585 veterans so far this year.
The office completed 78 federal claims in the reporting period (an increase of 47 from the previous month) and reported one-time benefit payments totalling $217,000 that went directly to Dodge County veterans. Rayer said the office also secured approximately $97,000 in monthly recurring benefits for veterans and described a $51,000 debt-correction case that the office resolved where the Department of Veterans Affairs had sought repayment for an amount the veteran had already paid decades earlier.
Rayer noted average VA claim processing time of about 72.6 days and that the office is handling increased first-time contacts and new veterans seeking services. She also described routine financial-assistance requests (rent, utilities, medical bills) and other benefits work the office performs.
