The Reedsburg Common Council voted to set a public hearing on Ordinance 1986-26, a rezoning request to change Lot 1 from agricultural to government to allow construction of a Town of Winfield town hall.
City staff said the rezoning application will go to the plan commission for a recommendation before the council takes final action. "This will actually go to the plan commission tomorrow for a recommendation," Brian said during the meeting, describing the request and the proposed division of land at the corner of K and Bass Road.
The rezoning petition covers a parcel in the city's extraterritorial zone. John, who commented during council discussion, asked for a quiet approach to the matter and said the nearby property owners "have been good neighbors to us for a long time." The council then voted to set a public hearing; the motion was made by Dietrich and seconded by Peterson and carried. The meeting record did not include a hearing date.
Earlier in the meeting the council approved its consent agenda, which included receiving April reports on payments, building permits and ambulance runs; canceling the May 25 common council meeting in observance of Memorial Day; and approving annual public entertainment license applications for Eds Magical Midway LLC for Butterfest, scheduled June 17–June 21, 2026. The consent agenda was moved by Schulte, seconded by Maris, and carried unanimously.
The mayor read a proclamation designating May 10–16 as National Police Week and urged residents to thank local officers. The council also heard brief committee updates and announcements about upcoming local events.
Next steps: the rezoning application will go to the plan commission for review and the council will hold a public hearing on Ordinance 1986-26 at a date to be set.
