Nicole Hefner, the Dodge County manager of land information, presented proposed amendments to the county surveyor-review checklist on April 13 intended to align internal practice with county code and to ease staff workload.
Hefner said the proposal would remove a 5‑day internal logging deadline and modify language around review timeframes so the internal 15‑day target reads as a goal while the county-code maximum of 60 days remains the formal standard. She also proposed adding a requirement that completed surveys be recorded with the register of deeds within 30 days of approval to avoid unsigned and unrecorded plats remaining on file indefinitely.
Committee members indicated support, with the Chair saying the change “loosens it up a little bit” for staff while still encouraging timely reviews. The committee gave its blessing for the office to finalize the policy language and incorporate it into internal procedures.
