Lancaster County commissioners on May 12 proclaimed May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month, recognizing efforts to expand access to behavioral-health services and reduce stigma.
Jeff Kilpatrick of Community Corrections and Jamie Scott, chief crisis and outreach officer at Integrated Behavioral Health Services, thanked the board for support and highlighted the county's VCRC (crisis and recovery center). "In the less than year that we've been open we've had over 300 individual admissions so far," Scott said, noting the center's role in offering immediate support.
Commissioners expressed appreciation for the work of community partners and affirmed continued county support. The board approved the proclamation by motion and roll-call vote.
Why it matters: the VCRC and similar community partners provide crisis stabilization and diversion resources that county officials say reduce downstream interactions with emergency services and the criminal-justice system. County leaders said they regard maintenance of such services as an ongoing community priority.
