Design update: North Ridgeville City Schools says new high school on track with construction starting in 2026

Contractors and district officials told the North Ridgeville City Board of Education on Oct. 15 that design for a new two-story high school and a relocated transportation and maintenance center is progressing and remains aligned with the project budget.
At the meeting, Claire Ben and Bill Sherman of TBA Construction reviewed site plans and floor layouts, describing an academic ‘‘heart’’ linking classrooms, dedicated arts and athletic zones and separate auditorium and pool access. They said educators guided interior layouts while community feedback helped shape exterior materials and the main entry. ‘‘We started a lot of engagements last spring,’’ Ben said, noting more than 1,500 respondents to a visual-preference exercise.
Paul, representing Handman Construction, said the project has completed schematic design for the high school and that cost estimates have been checked against the budget. He outlined a phased schedule: construction of the new transportation and maintenance center is expected to begin in March 2025 and run through the end of 2025, early site work and grading for the new high school are planned for summer 2025, vertical construction is expected to start in spring 2026 and the district anticipates occupancy in summer 2028, followed by demolition of the existing high school and conversion to athletic fields by Fall 2028. ‘‘We are aligned with the budget,’’ Paul said during his presentation.
Presenters emphasized campus safety and logistics: construction zones will be fenced and physically separated from occupied spaces, workforce members will undergo background checks, and the district plans to open selected tours and educational opportunities during construction. Board members and administrators praised the contractor’s safety planning and the engagement process with staff.
The board also voted to approve the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission’s design review comments as they relate to the high school project, a procedural step the district said keeps the project moving through state review. That motion passed on a roll call with all members voting yes.
Next steps, presenters said, include resolving utilities and furnishing requirements, advancing detailed interior design and returning to the board with further updates as design work continues.
