Community committee outlines plan for Valley View Local cultural and performing arts center

Don Gunn, representing the Valley View Performing Arts Committee, told the board the group formed in 2022 to create a dedicated cultural and performing arts facility for students and the wider community. The committee has raised funds for a feasibility study and architectural work and has negotiated a memorandum of understanding with the district, Gunn said.
“We raised $12,500 to pay for our feasibility and our architecture firm,” Gunn said, and the committee is moving from initial planning toward a public fundraising campaign, video testimonials and naming opportunities to attract outside donors. He described the project as a cultural center rather than an exclusive performing arts venue so the building can host graduations, banquets and community events as well as student performances.
The committee presented designs showing a 600‑seat theater (expandable to about 720), a black‑box rehearsal space and an outdoor courtyard stage intended for summer performances. Gunn said the building site is on campus near a bridge connecting the new high school, and the committee plans to use existing parking where possible while adding handicap spaces.
Board members thanked the committee for its fundraising work and for engaging architects and consultants. The presentation did not include a formal request for district capital funding; Gunn and others emphasized the need to secure contributions beyond the immediate community and to retain district partnership and oversight as the project advances.
Next steps the committee described include releasing a testimonial/fundraising video, pursuing a broader donor base and continuing collaboration with district administrators and architects as feasibility results are finalized.
