Richland One officials cite rising industry certifications, push for stronger direct outreach to students

Mr. Dinkens told the committee it is difficult to put an exact percentage on certification increases because enrollments and course offerings change year to year, but he said more teachers deliberately offered certification options in 2024–25, driving growth in credentials. "It's kind of hard to put a percentage on," he said, noting changes in enrollments and course mixes.
Trustees expressed concern that students are not always aware of CTE options. The district said it is moving toward more direct, student‑facing communications and celebrating CTE work in local media while also exploring systemwide high‑school redesign to blend career pathways and concentrated programming at sites such as Hayward and Lower Richland.
On scheduling, staff said they strive to make AP/IB and career‑center access compatible and that counselors work with students to resolve occasional timetable conflicts (for instance by arranging virtual AP courses) so students need not choose between advanced academics and CTE opportunities.
Committee members did not vote on new measures but encouraged staff to strengthen outreach and report back on participation increases.
