Dorchester 2 Educational Foundation reports record donor engagement and targeted grants

Ralph Hayes, executive director of the Dorchester 2 Educational Foundation, told trustees the foundation saw a record number of individual donors this year and outlined several initiatives that funded student experiences and teacher supports.
"We had over 1,500 individual donations that came into the foundation this year to support our initiatives for the school district," Hayes said. He described the foundation’s new recurring-donor 'two for two' marquee campaign to allow community members to give small monthly amounts, and he cited partnerships that brought guest speakers and scholarships to students. Hayes said the foundation provided funding for conference attendance for students and teachers, supported robotics and archery teams, and invested in first-year teacher induction programs.
The foundation reported it invested more than $15,000 for first-year teacher induction and an additional $155,000 targeted at veteran teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week. Hayes also noted the foundation won a local marketing competition that produced the new campaign branding and a grant from the Cooper River Bridge Run to scholarship students in the associated race.
Board members praised the foundation’s work and encouraged continued community engagement and partnerships. No formal board action was taken on the foundation report.
