Dorchester 02 celebrates Sand Hill Elementary Blue Ribbon and four Renaissance recognitions

Sand Hill Elementary was announced as a National Blue Ribbon School, one of four in South Carolina named today, the Dorchester School District 2 board heard. The recognition was presented during the district highlights portion of the board meeting, where trustees applauded the school’s academic placement in the top state percentiles.
Miss Troy, presenting the highlights, said the designation reflects either top academic achievement or closing achievement gaps; she said Sand Hill is in the top 10% of elementary schools in the state. The board also recognized four schools selected as Renaissance Schools of Distinction — Austin Middle School, Deos/Duos Middle School, Oakbrook Middle School and Somerville High School — for their work on school climate and culture using the Renaissance framework.
Representatives from each school came forward to accept recognition. The district noted prior history of Blue Ribbon schools in Dorchester 02 and applauded staff and students for the district’s continuing record of awards. Trustees said the recognitions showcase the district’s priorities on relationships, relevance and rigor.
The board did not take formal action on the recognitions; the items were presented as part of district highlights. The meeting moved next to foundation and committee reports.
