The board recognized alumnus Dick Roberts, a member of the class of 1985, who returned to present the framed original sketch of a mural he and students painted decades ago in the high-school cafeteria.
Roberts described his search for the original drawing and why he wanted to return it to the school. "I just wanted to say thank you to the school board and to the high school and to those teachers," Roberts said as he dedicated the framed sketch to the teachers who influenced him. He described working part time with local newsmen while in high school and later in television, and said finding the original sketch after many years prompted him to gift it to the district.
Board members and attendees applauded the donation. The chair thanked Roberts on behalf of the district and noted the mural's longevity in the cafeteria.
What happens next: Roberts will provide a plaque with background information and staff will arrange placement for the framed sketch in a location near the cafeteria.
