Monterey County Behavioral Health Spotlights Pink Shirt Day, Rainbow Connections Campaign

Rodenbush said Pink Shirt Day events are underway at school sites and will culminate with a community event Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Northridge Mall; organizers expect dozens of local organizations to table and have planned student performances, a short animated film on digital citizenship, interactive anti-bullying activities and giveaways including free T-shirts.
She credited Harmony at Home and other partners — including school districts, probation, law enforcement, nonprofit groups and mall hosts — with organizing the event. Rodenbush said about 35 organizations had confirmed tables as of the day before the briefing.
Rodenbush also described Rainbow Connections, a county behavioral-health digital campaign that spotlights a different social-emotional skill each month (January: empathy; February: kindness; March: support; April: allyship). She said the program is continuing for another fiscal year and that the county circulates youth-generated survey responses and social posts to guide programming.
The briefing included examples of local participants: an animated short film by Ryan Knight and a musical performance by a young saxophonist known as Raleigh Fingers. Officials encouraged families and community members to attend the mall event and to follow the county’s social channels for campaign materials.
