Cemetery staff logs removed items, offers family retrieval as clean-sweep continues

Staff updated the board on the cemetery’s clean-sweep program, saying the team has logged and photographed unauthorized items placed on graves and is storing removed items carefully for family pickup.
“Everything’s being stowed and handled with care,” staff said, noting fragile items are wrapped and recorded line-item by line-item. Staff said families may retrieve their items if they wish. The program is documenting temporary markers left by monument companies and working to rectify markers that have remained for long periods.
Staff also described ongoing repairs after a recent ice storm, including work on water lines and on monuments whose granite bases cracked due to freeze-thaw. The cemetery has sourced plumbing parts from local suppliers and is addressing repairs as parts and labor permit.
The board heard detailed descriptions of recent capital-maintenance work: asphalt and gravel repairs at four hazardous areas across the cemetery, four new pressure-treated wood walkways at the south (P Lane) entrance to aid family access, and the removal/relocation of loose metal poles at a small bridge near block three to improve safety. Staff identified specific repaired locations (block 23, near the chapel, near Gary’s plot, and a hedge row adjacent to 84) and showed before-and-after photos.
Board members asked for a proposed tour (rescheduled because of the ice storm) and for cost figures if plaque relocation or masonry repair are pursued. Staff said they would meet with Brian to reschedule the tour and return with additional information.
