A representative for Doc Hills Family Care Home told the Hamlet City Council that the facility at 302 Spring Street has received its state license and is now open for business.
The owner and representatives said they have rescheduled a community cookout and are hosting a Community Fest on Oct. 12 from 1 to 5 p.m., with follow-up activities at Mega Park from 7 to 9 p.m. They asked council to consider facilitating a faster review for the event because the facility had been pre-approved before its license arrived.
The speaker also reported that a speed-check sign recently placed outside 308 Spring Street had reduced vehicle speeds and given residents a better chance to cross the street safely. “The traffic has slowed down so we have a fighting chance for our residents to cross the street without getting hit,” the representative said.
Council and staff discussed nuisance-property processes after an owner asked what assistance the city could provide for a dilapidated property across the street. Staff advised the owner to supply property and owner information to the city manager so the city could pursue contact or potential purchase discussions and follow up the next morning.
Next steps: the Doc Hills representative invited council members to tour the facility and will provide contact information and the nuisance-property particulars to the city manager for follow-up.
