Bond oversight committee approves project updates, Q3–Q4 priorities and schedules EV-bus celebration

At its Feb. 19 meeting the Tucson Unified School District bond oversight committee approved the bond-office report on current projects and then approved quarter 3–4 bond project priorities as presented.
Dr. Erica Miranda Carter told the committee the Sabino domestic-waterline replacement project was approximately 95% complete, that the 15-school HVAC IGA projects were roughly 16% complete, and that security gates/fencing work across the initial 32 sites was about 64% complete. She said pavement-preservation funding remained contingent on adjacent-way contributions and that security-window film phase two requisitions were being entered by the bond office.
Dr. Carter said the district’s electric-vehicle pilot included 10 EV buses and five chargers; test charging had succeeded and the bond office expects to finalize closing documents and a rebate of about $1.1 million (combining EPA grant and investment tax-credit benefits). A public celebration of the EV-bus project is scheduled for March 4.
On Q3–Q4 priorities, Dr. Carter presented a package of proposed summer projects for temporarily-shuttered schools: Miller (concrete replacement, flooring, modular improvements and portable demolition, an itemized demolition estimate listed in the presentation as about $105,426), Mission View (new LVT and carpet for nine classrooms and a library), and a reprioritized fencing request for Wheeler (~$98,000) based on safety team recommendations. Dr. Carter said bond office spot checks and 10-year warranties will be part of final closeouts.
Committee members asked for details on EV bus rollout communications to families; Dr. Carter said the transportation team is developing the roll-out plan and that she would provide details at the next meeting. The committee also recognized departing members with certificates and set their next regular meeting for March 26.
