The Richland School District One Board of School Commissioners advanced a slate of first‑reading policies and approved a contract extension at its Oct. 8 meeting.
On the consent agenda the board approved minutes from the Sept. 24 meeting and a contract extension for the MasteryConnect software subscription; the motions passed with unanimous votes recorded in the meeting. The board then moved through several offices and approved first readings of district policies, including technology use policies (IJNDB; IJKA; GBEBD), academic policies related to international study and travel and content/credit recovery (ICB, IKADD, IKFA), a district‑sponsored media policy (KDC), and chief‑of‑staff policies on weapons and student exposition (JICI and JKE). Each item was presented as a first reading or information item; the board voted to advance those items as first readings.
Commissioner Lomman raised a substantive tone concern about the employee acceptable‑use language and asked that the administration review wording that could be perceived as adversarial toward staff; no policy text was amended at the meeting. The board will consider subsequent readings and any edits at future meetings.
