The Borough of Wildwood Crest voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 1463, a bond ordinance to acquire land located at 2011 West Pittsburgh Avenue.
The ordinance appropriates $775,000 and authorizes issuance of $738,000 in bonds or notes to finance the purchase. During the public hearing resident David Thompson (gave an address on Atlanta Avenue) asked what the borough planned to do with the property. Borough officials said the parcel squares off an odd-shaped lot behind the municipal pool and that the borough plans to sell a Crocus Avenue lot to offset the acquisition cost. Officials also said planned parking schematics tied to the New Jersey Avenue road-diet may yield additional parking spaces and that no immediate development plan for the new lot was finalized.
David Thompson urged caution about spending given other capital needs, including flood-mitigation projects. "I think spending $800,000 on a property that we really don't have an immediate need or use for, I don't see," Thompson said during public comment, noting he would prefer funds be used for higher-priority projects. The borough explained the transaction is effectively a swap: one borough-owned lot would be sold to offset the purchase.
The clerk closed the public hearing and the ordinance passed by roll call vote (Mr. Schiff, Mr. Franco, Mr. Cabera — all yes).
What happens next: The ordinance will be advertised according to law. Officials said any sale of the Crocus Avenue lot would be handled separately and that parking and design work connected to the New Jersey Avenue project will be coordinated with the borough’s engineering and design consultants.
(Reporting note: dollar amounts and parcel address appear in the meeting record.)
