Captain Jeremy Giddens, the police department’s grant manager, explained that the grant is distributed on a formula basis and requires a 30‑day public notification period before submission and that the city had posted the notice to its website and lobby. “This agenda item is the fiscal year 2025 JAG award; it’s a formula‑based grant,” Giddens said, adding staff had not received public comment as of that morning but would forward any comments to the Department of Justice.
The council opened a public hearing on the JAG submission, heard no speakers and closed the hearing. A motion to authorize submission and acceptance of the grant was made and carried on a roll‑call vote of 5‑0.
Staff said any public comments received before final submission will be forwarded to the Department of Justice as required. The council did not vote on specific expenditures for the grant at the meeting; authorization was limited to submission and acceptance of award terms.
